2009 SEASONAL NAUTICAL GIFTS
With the 2009 season almost upon us, now is the time for looking around for nautical gifts at bargain prices. GPS receiver units whether handheld or mounted fixed to the boat are a great gift for the new season. It is something that the owner of the vessel may have wanted but never got round to buying for themselves. Now is the time to surprise them! You could buy the GPS system yourself or this season do what I have been advising my family to do. Club together as a group and pool your gift money to buy the present. Some GPS navigation systems are expensive and by contributing as a group it will be more affordable. Plus the gift of a GPS either handheld or mounted fixed, will always be greatly appreciated.
A GPS system is a quality product and whether you buy a new one or second hand , used piece of equipment, it will be a wonderful navigational addition to the boat's inventory.
Nowadays some GPS receiver units can be used not only for marine use but also in the car or while out walking. A few weeks ago I used our GPS unit which had been taken off the boat for the winter to travel to Edinburgh for a show. The unit gave me precise directions to the hotel and then when I switched it to pedestrian it gave me exact directions to the Edinburgh Playhouse for the show. A wonderful device!
If you already have a GPS receiver then why not ask for an add-on accessory for the 2009 season. Many GPS products can be conected to other hardware such as your laptop computer. Fishfinders etc often have a facilty to attach other equipment like GPS units and this obviously adds to your abilty to navigate safely. So consider some type of accessory such as maps or other gps software as a 2009 seasonal present.
